CD “Made in Vienna”

Made in Vienna is an album with music by Viennese composers from four different époques, from the classicism to the contemporary music.

For many decades, the accordion has had a reputation as an instrument of folk music, ballrooms and street players all over the world. Its technical and cultural development can be traced back to its foundation by Cyrill Demian in 1829 in Vienna's Mariahilferstrasse. Almost 200 years later, it still retains its original status as one of the leading instruments of folk music in many different countries. However, with its technical development and the establishment of good accordion schools, it has rightly earned a modest place on the classical music scene and attracted the interest of contemporary composers.

Currently, the accordion is one of the most versatile instruments, offering completely new sounds and technical possibilities to the classical music audience. As one of the youngest acoustic instruments, it allows the performer to rediscover the music of the past, by composers who did not even know, or did not pay serious attention to this instrument. The arrangements on this album were created primarily out of the awareness that these composers had a fondness for arranging and transcribing their or other music.

As one of the greatest music centers in the world and my city of residence, I wanted Vienna to be at the center of this album, as the place that connects all the pieces in it and where the accordion was born. Music by Haydn, Liszt, Schönberg and D’Ase.

Accordion Sketch

As one of the youngest acoustic instruments, accordion still didn’t reach its performance peak. It gained significant role in the contemporary music during the last three decades, however, there is yet much more to discover and to bring it closer to the classical music scene. This program tries to bring the contemporary accordion music closer to the audiences, as well as encourage composers to write for accordion.
